Market Gratitude

What are you thankful for?

At the end of each year, Rod and I spend some time reflecting on the months behind us - the successes, the failures, and the reasons for both.

Have you ever noticed that our failures tend to stand out and are easier to recall than the small, day-to-day successes? It seems to be human nature that, if left unchecked, we focus more on the bad and less on the good - just watch the nightly news!

I think this is why so many inspirational speakers and writers encourage us to spend a little time each day reflecting on the day’s events and giving thanks for the good, no matter how small. Today, I want to share one of mine...

Every week, we have the privilege of setting up our market stall at The Real Food Market alongside our fellow farmers, Todd and Lisa Richardson from Chef2Farmer. We love their incurable cheerfulness, and throughout the day there is a steady stream of playful teasing between us.

This week, I arrived at market very late, and my helper Tash was late also. Arriving late always makes set-up stressful, and inevitably we will still be rushing to finish setup when the customers arrive and it is time to ‘open shop.’ Stress!!

Seeing our predicament, Todd cheerfully stepped in and helped us unload all of our produce out of our truck and onto the tables. We were so grateful!

And in true Todd fashion, when we thanked him, he simply said, “That’s what we’re here for - to support each other, Darl.” Thanks again Todd & Lisa for being such great friends and fellow farmers in arms!

Your turn - find something to be grateful for. Take notice of the people who make your life easier, happier, or richer—and even those who build your resilience, and be thankful for them  .

Focus on the good, and take a moment to be grateful. Your mind and body will thank you, and so will those around you.
